October Recap

I really lapsed this month with my training postings. I hope to do better in November and through the Dallas Marathon. I have been really busy with work and we had company every weekend of this entire month. I also spent a week in California for work. Enough excuses...

So what have I been up to.
  • I ran 198.63 miles for the month...my biggest month so far this year
  • I got in two of my four 20+ mile runs for Dallas and they both went really well
  • Two 2/8 pace runs that went really well and were faster than previous runs
  • Stayed healthy with only some nagging hip and lower back stuff; my new masseuse has done wonders for me
With about 6 weeks to go until race day I am feeling really positive about my BQ. I am hoping that the weather finally cooperates with me for a marathon. I don't think I have had good weather for a marathon since Chicago of 2006 where I ran 3:24.

On to November with a 24 miler on tap for tomorrow!

The Universe

For those of you that know me well I am a big fan of The Secret. Through The Secret I found a web site that send me a daily message from the "Universe." These daily inspirations are thought provoking and really tie back to my faith. I am on a journey in this life that is already dictated by the Universe, meaning God. There is a plan for me which means that I need to work hard to achieve my goals in life, but I also need not worry so much because I have a safety net no matter how hard things may get for me along the journey. Anyway, today's email was so surprising because it was about a really specific goal I have. Check it out!

Act the part, Frank, act the part.

You will Qualify for the Boston Marathon. It's a done deal. Actually, I've already sent out the party invitations.

Act the part,
The Universe

Run at Home

Today was the usual 8+ miles at home with Wish. I was thinking of taking the day off since my left hip/glute was still sore, but I got up and pushed through it and the run went really well. I think doing circles on the track may have made a minor irritation worse. I foam rollered it a few times yesterday which probably added to the soreness. Anyway I feel great after the run with no soreness at all.

Stats - 8.76 miles/1:17:45/8:52 pace

1200s at AHS

Today we met for 1200s at AHS. This was one of those days that I should have stayed in bed. I was exhausted yesterday and my left glute was really sore. The pace run on Monday really kicked my butt and I am still feeling the effects. As for today I knew it was going to be bad when I had to run out of Gilbert's pre-workout talk and drop a the bomb. I ran over to AHS with Lisa C and did the drills. We did a lap of strides before we began and I noticed that none of my training posse was there this morning. I was on my own for one of my least favorite workouts. G said to do 3-5 and and my goal was to do 5:00 for each one to get me near the 3:21 average I had for the 800s last week. My first repeat was a slow as 5:39 (7:25 pace). My glute was flaring up so I told myself to get through 4 repeats and call it a day. Repeat 2 was a 5:33 (7:20), repeat 3 was 5:19 (6:58), and the last one was a 5:10 (6:48). I really focused on the last two which were respectable times. My heart rate was in the 150s for all but the last one so I know I had some more speed if my legs weren't so dead.

I stretched when I got home and used my foam roller on my glute. I really need to break down and get a massage after next week's 20 miler.

Stats - 7.06 miles
MHR - 162 (last repeat)
